Virtue of Smallness

Shattered clam shell fragments

pave the crescent shore

loose mosaic tiles

Barnacle cone houses

and soft-skinned

bladder wrack bulbs

pinky-width to the big toed

 hard-hatted clams

They are scarred but are unbroken

by Ocean’s hammer-fist.
